What is Berberine HCL?
Berberine is a bioactive compound which can be extracted from certain plants. It belongs to a class of compounds known as alkaloids. It is yellow in color and has often been used a dye.
Berberine has a very long history in traditional Chinese medicine.
Berberine has shown to have many powerful health benefits on many different biological systems in the body.
After takingBerberine, it gets transported into the bloodstream and then travels into the body’s cells. Once in the cells, it binds to many different ‘molecular targets’ and changes their function.
Berberine main action is to activate an enzyme that is inside the cells known as the AMPK – AMP-Activated protein kinase, which is also known as the metabolic master switch. These cells are found in the brain, muscles, kidneys, heart and liver and other organs. This enzyme has a huge role in regulating metabolism.
