What is DIM

Diindolylmethane, or DIM, is a plant compound which is found naturally in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. As well as being trialled as a cancer treatment it is also a great supplement for bodybuilders as it works to promote muscle growth and reduce fat. It balances hormones in males and females, resulting in better health and wellbeing, and can even enhance athletic achievement.

Side Effects

Synthetic products used to boost the production of testosterone are associated with side effects such as mood swings, aggression and a higher risk of prostate cancer. DIM also stimulates the production of testosterone but has few or no side effects. When DIM is taken in the correct doses, then it is highly likely to be safe and the only mild side effects that you may experience include headaches and an upset stomach, and these side effects are only temporary.

How does it work

DIM helps the body to metabolise oestrogen more effectively which is great because it is beneficial to decrease the amount of unmetabolised oestrogen in your blood. After the amount of unmetabolised oestrogen has been reduced, the levels of 2 hydroxy oestrogen increases. This 2 hydroxy oestrogen helps to separate testosterone from sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and allows it to become free testosterone. Free testosterone more easily reaches your muscles and fat cells and has a greater impact than testosterone, which is bound by SHBG.

Benefits:

DIM is anti-carcinogenic and has fantastic cancer reducing properties, in particular for breast and prostate cancer. Consistently taking DIM can successfully lower the risk of prostate cancer in men over 50.  It also increases the amount of active, or free, testosterone in your bloodstream which has a positive impact on your muscle building potential.

DIM can also balance your hormones. Having a good hormone balance is key to good health and well-being.

Although DIM is a natural compound it can be difficult to get a beneficial amount through diet alone so supplementation is a great way of getting all the benefits in a safe and easily measurable way.
